It's possible to dramatically change the look of your kitchen simply by changing your kitchen lighting design.
There are countless numbers of fixtures to choose from...chandeliers, table lamps, track lighting, sconces, LED strips, under cabinet lighting, and cove uplighting.

The first thing I always look at when I'm designing a kitchen lighting scheme is the natural light. Natural light, if any, that pours into a kitchen provides the basis for which you will choose your lighting. Does your kitchen receive a lot of natural light, all day long? If so, you really only need to concentrate on evening lighting...lamps, track lighting, and under cabinet lighting. Do you live in an apartment where there's not much natural light? Then you will need to concentrate more on creating the illusion of natural light for daytime hours, then concentrate on evening lighting.

I also want to mention how important it is to make sure that you have your lighting scheme mapped out early because it will drastically affect how the other components of your kitchen design will look. Check out this site for some great kitchen lighting tips...

While choosing your kitchen materials, make sure you test them at different times of the day to see what they will look like in different settings.
